History
and Ownership:
Skeels
Electric Company was founded in 1914 in Bismarck by Barlow
K. Skeels who held a North Dakota Master Electricians
License. B.K. Skeels Electric, as it was originally named,
performed electrical work throughout the western parts
of North Dakota under his leadership until his death in
1949.
W.T.
Kraft and Carl Flurer purchased the interests of B.K.
Skeels Electric from the Barlow K. Skeels estate in 1950
and began operating it as the partnership Skeels Electric
Company. Carl Flurer had been employed by Barlow K. Skeels
as a journeyman electrician since 1923. Carl Flurer obtained
his North Dakota Master Electricians License at this time.
The firm operated under W.T. Kraft and Carl Flurer until
1960 when Kraft sold his interest to Flurer.
Carl
Flurer sold 60% of his interest in the company to two
of his sons, Paul Flurer and Richard Flurer. Richard Flurer
was a journeyman electrician and later obtained his Master
Electricians License. Skeels Electric Company was incorporated
as a Sub-Chapter S Corporation on December 12, 1963.
Carl
Flurer sold half of his remaining interest or 20% of Skeels
Electric Company stock to Harold Wolf in January 1976.
In February 1979, Carl Flurer sold the balance of his
stock to Paul Flurer, Richard Flurer, and Harold Wolf,
but continued on as president of the company until July
1987, when Richard Flurer became president.
Paul
Flurer retired in April 1989 and sold his stock to Richard
Flurer and Harold Wolf. Each owned 50% of the stock of
Skeels Electric Company.
Harold
Wolf retired in May 1992, selling his stock to his son,
Thomas Wolf, and to Clyde Wetsch, a long-time employee
of the firm. Each purchased 24% of Skeels Electric Company.
Harold Wolf remained as an officer and adviser until December
1993.
Richard
Flurer retired January 1, 1996, selling his stock to Thomas
Wolf, Clyde Wetsch, and Robert Flurer, son of Paul Flurer
and grandson to Carl Flurer. Thomas Wolf, Clyde Wetsch,
and Robert Flurer each own equal shares of Skeels Electric
Inc. stock.
Clyde
Wetsch is the Licensed Master Electrician and president
of Skeels Electric, Inc. Thomas Wolf holds a journeyman
license and Robert Flurer holds a master license. All
three have worked in the field as journeyman electricians
and as job superintendents.
