Labor Relations
NECA
represents its members in contract negotiations and
administration with the International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 426 in Sioux Falls,
Locals 714 in Bismarck and Minot, Local 1250 in Rapid
City and Locals 1426 in Fargo and Grand Forks. Our
members are further supported with educational materials,
programs on negotiating skills and employee benefits
packages. NECA also has programs in place to update
and improve workers' skills. These efforts, along
with the no-strike clause in all contracts with our
workers, have forged a tradition of excellence that's
directly connected to our record of quality work
and productivity. NECA promotes harmonious labor
relations and provides for the orderly settlement
of labor disputes. The Council on Industrial Relations
is co-sponsored by NECA and IBEW to peacefully resolve
contract or labor disputes when necessary.

Public Relations & Marketing
NECA
offers marketing support to its members by providing
marketing materials, sponsoring training programs,
conducting marketing studies, promoting the NECA
Connection contractor referral database and by
supporting the Contractor-Utility Partnership Program.
Through print, radio, video, billboard, direct
mail and the Internet, NECA sponsors advertising
and public service programs designed to inform
the public of the NECA contractor's professional
expertise and educate the public on the importance
of safe, quality electrical work. Through trade
shows and contact with allied association, NECA
works increase the marketability of our members
by promoting the advantages of contracting with
member electrical construction companies. Finally,
we help contractors deliver by providing workforce
training opportunities in the latest technologies.

Government Affairs
NECA
monitors court cases, legislation, regulations, codes
and standards relevant to the electrical contracting
industry on the state and federal level, and acts
as an advocate for electrical contractors as necessary.
To assist its members in the successful operation
of their businesses, NECA also serves as an informational
and educational resource on changes in legislation
and regulations.

Training
The
Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee conducts
training for electrical workers, run cooperatively
by NECA and IBEW. Its mission is to develop and
standardize training to educate the members of
IBEW and NECA. With six training locations in the
Dakotas and over 40 years of experience, the JATC
is able to train 180 - 200 apprentices every
year. Continuing training is provided to journeyman
workers to stay up-to-date on the latest technologies.
JATC and other training programs help ensure an
adequate supply of technically and professional
qualified craftsmen for all types of electrical
work.

Safety
NECA
is committed to safety, for our workers on the
job and for our projects after our work is done.
Teaching safe work practices is a key element in
all our training, and we support ongoing safety
awareness campaigns for contractors and workers.
NECA has also been involved in the National Electrical
Code development to help set basic standards for
electrical equipment, materials and safe installation
methods. Along with training in the latest OSHA
Safety and Health Standards for General Industry
and Construction, NECA provides safety consultation
for our members.

Technical Services
NECA
identifies and monitors emerging technologies and
changes in the industry and provides technical
information study kits to help members market and
deliver new services and the latest technologies
like power quality, energy management, low-voltage,
datacom applications and more. NECA also works
in coalition with other specialty industry organizations
to develop technical information for our members.

Information & Education
Along
with the latest information on safety and technology,
NECA also provides members with management support,
including instruction and training programs on estimating
and bidding, effective supervision, sales techniques,
project management and financial administration.
Our regular publications give the latest electrical
construction industry news, as well as information
on improved business and management techniques. Then
educational programs like our Management Education
Institute, our annual Executive Study Program, and
most recently our online Virtual Campus, give our
members a variety of ways to stay up-to-date on both
the technical and the business side of our industry.

Codes & Standards
With
positions on all 20 code-making panels of the National
Electric Code Committee, NECA represents the interests
of electrical contractors in the development of
equipment standards, materials standards, safety
regulations and installation methods and standards.
NECA also reviews licensing and inspection regulations
and recommends changes when necessary, particularly
through its monitoring of emerging technologies.

Industry Relations
NECA
works with manufacturers, distributors, utilities,
architects and engineers to promote effective industry
relations. NECA also works with other trade associations
within the entire construction industry to assure
the most active, open competitive bidding for electrical
contracts, and to eliminate unfair trade practices.
The NECA Convention and Electrical Industry Exposition
gives members the opportunity to learn about the
latest electrical construction products and services.
It also provides a forum for the exchange of ideas
with other top contractors.
